I’ve always enjoyed the details of other people’s home tech setups. Here’s mine!
Generic Stuff
- Macbook Pro M1 - Purchased in late 2022, my go-to for personal projects and daily computing. This has served me pretty well.
- iPad Mini - Honestly, I don’t need this much anymore. It’s basically just a more portable way to access the same stuff I use on my MacBook, and was purchased prior to getting the M1.
E-ink Devices
- Kindle - As an avid reader, e-ink devices have completely transformed my relationship with books
- Boox Note Air 5c - My paper replacement that’s great for reading articles and technical books. The full Android system makes it incredibly flexible and versatile, allowing me to run any Android apps, browse web, etc.
Keyboards: Dealing with Repetitive Strain
I’ve experienced significant hand pain from extensive computer use. As a result, I’ve become an enthusiastic user of the Glove80. This keyboard, combined with daily stretching, has solved my pain problems. There’s much more on the Glove80 website, but the theories behind their angled wrist rests and the sculpted key wells has worked phenomenally for me.
Homelab
I’ve built out several automation systems to improve my daily life using software running on my Homelab. I’ve got a couple old laptops that have been repurposed into linux servers. On these everything runs within docker containers (making unreliable hardware easy to deal with).
Home Assistant
I’ve got home assistant running as a central hub for many things within the house.
- Every light switch is controlled via Home Assistant, through Z-wave and Zigbee.
- I’ve got a Lutron hub, which enabled remote control of some of the built in lights.
- I’m using Home Assistant as the server to handle data parsing for an ESP32-based environmental monitoring project I built.

Calibre
- Going along with my enjoyment of e-ink devices, I have calibre setup (it’s an Ebook management open source software). I’ve even made some small contributions to the project’s documentation and bug reports.
- I use this on the daily to download news into epub & AMZN formats which I can easily read on either the kindle or the boox.
